‘Suspend-before-low’ feature reduces hypoglycemia with pump therapy in type 1 diabetes

Adults with long-standing type 1 diabetes and hypoglycemia unawareness using an insulin pump therapy system with an algorithm-driven, insulin-suspension feature experienced fewer hypoglycemic events than those using sensor-augmented pump therapy, according to findings published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.

Assessing Effects of l-Methylfolate in Depression Management: Results of a Real-World Patient Experience Trial

 

l-Methylfolate has been shown in retrospective and prospective studies to enhance antidepressant response. The aim of this study was to prospectively assess change in depression severity and medication satisfaction in patients prescribed l-methylfolate within a naturalistic setting.

Nutritional Guidelines for the Surgical Weight Loss Patient 

Optimizing postoperative patient outcomes and nutritional status begins preoperatively. Patients should be educated before and after weight loss surgery (WLS) on the expected nutrient deficiencies associated with alterations in physiology. Although surgery can exacerbate preexisting nutrient deficiencies, preoperative screening for vitamin deficiencies has not been the norm in the majority of WLS practices. Screening is important because it is common for patients who present for WLS to have at least 1 vitamin or mineral deficiency preoperatively.
